Preventing Skin Acne – 5 Top Skin Care Tips to Follow

Acne has a tendency to begin when a child reaches puberty. Hormones cause the sebaceous glands to grow. These glands produce oil, which blocks the pore so they cannot cleanse themselves. As a result, the pore gets clogged and pimples develop. The key to help preventing skin acne is to start a skin regimen before the acne flares up. Cleansing To help prevent skin acne, the first step is proper facial cleaning. If you wear makeup, begin by using a non-oily make up remover and rid your face of all cosmetics. Choose a cleaning solution for your face and neck that contains at least 5% benzoyl peroxide. If you find you are allergic or overly sensitive to benzoyl peroxide, then choose a solution with 2% salicylic acid. Cleanse your face thoroughly. Be sure to wash the creases on either side of your nose and right up into you hairline. Do not forget to scrub your upper neck, as this is an area prone to pimples too. And rinse well, as you want to remove all of the soap and oil. Follow this regimen twice a day. Topical Gels After washing your face, you can apply a topical gel that has 5% benzoyl peroxide. You have the option of applying this cream all over your face and neck or, if you find you skin is too sensitive, then just apply to affected areas. Do not over apply or you can end up with sore red patches of skin. Use this gel after you wash in the morning. Night Creams After washing your face for the evening, carefully examine your head and neck. If you are prone to pimples on your chest, back or arms, examine these areas too. If you spy any areas of irritation where a pimple or blackhead might form, apply a cream containing sulfur to that area. Make-Up If you plan on using make up, read all the labels carefully. You want to choose make up that is oil free. The oil in oil based make up will block your pores and cause build up of keratin, sebum and dead skin cells. This will result in skin acne. In addition if you use a moisturizer, be sure it is a light cream and not heavy in oils. Picking and Popping As hard as it is to resist, leave those pimples, whiteheads and blackheads alone. Squeezing, popping & picking will only lead to scarring. Concentrate on preventing acne instead of causing facial scarring. A pimple that lasts for a few days is much more appealing than a scar that lasts a lifetime. When following a skin care regimen, read all labels before purchasing the products. For acne prevention, you want a cleanser with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Both products help prevent pore blockage, skin inflammation and pimple formation. Select an effective night cream to rub into pimples that flare up. Keep any heavy or oily materials away from you face. Also try and wash oils off of your hands before touching your face. Keeping your face oil free is the key to preventing skin acne.

Acne Tips – Beware Popular Brands Make Acne Worse!

The shocking must read truth is that the most popular skin care brands targeted towards treating acne are damaging to your skin and make acne worse. Learning the truth will save you disappointment, money and a lot of time.

Many advertisements are aimed at making consumers (you) believe that if you buy their products your acne will vanish and you will have clear, smooth and radiant skin. Pretty models rub cleanser onto their cheeks then splash it off all the while beaming with joy at this so called miraculous product. When you’re suffering from unattractive breakouts and red inflamed pimples, it’s easy to be led astray and you constantly find yourself desperately buying each new pimple fighting product determined that this time it’s going to work, only it never does.

Below is a review on some products in two of the most popular acne targeted skin care ranges.

Clean & Clear:

Continuous Control Acne Cleanser contains Vaseline and mineral oil which adds a lot of unwanted oil and works towards clogging your pores causing more pimples to form.

Other products you should never use from this line are; Continuous Control Acne Wash Oil Free, Deep Action Cleansing Wipes Oil Free, Deep Action Cream Cleanser, Clarifying Toner, Oil Fighting Deep Cleaning Astringent, Sensitive Skin Astringent, Moisturizing Mist, Invisible Blemish Treatment and Overnight Acne Patches.

All of these products contain potently irritating ingredients like camphor, peppermint and clove which work to make skin red and inflamed. Many of these products have a high percentage of alcohol which is also highly irritating and extremely drying towards skin, making your skin flake and peel adding to your problems. Alcohol (the only exception being SD Alcohol) not only irritates and angers the skin, but prolongs healing time.

Also any Salicylic Acid which these products contain is not effective in the least because of the low dosage and the incorrect PH level which renders this ingredient ineffective towards treating acne.

Clearasil:

Considering how long Clearasil has been around, you’d think by now it would have succeeded in curing somebody’s acne. It’s hard to understand why Clearasil is making such bad products, but it’s a testament to their advertising department that they can still convince people to buy their merchandise.

All of their products are very bad choices when it comes not only to fighting acne, but for all skin in general. Many of their products contain menthol and alcohol which is harmful to the skin and which causes pimples to become red, angry and inflamed.

Here are a couple of examples:

Vanishing Treatment Cream Maximum Strength touts a 10% benzoyl peroxide which is a great ingredient for treating acne, however in the same product they use isopropyl myristate which causes breakouts.

Adult Care Acne Tinted Cream is one of the most highly irritating and damaging skin care products for acne. It not only contains alcohol but also has resorcinol, sulphur and isopropyl myristate all very irritating ingredients. This product clogs pores, is drying (in a very bad way) and causes redness and irritation and damages the skin.

It’s a major cause of concern that the majority of skin care products that advertise treating acne not only have no effect on eliminating pimples but actually cause them to look worse. Finding an effective acne treatment is like finding a diamond in the rough, the search is a very expensive game of hit and miss.

Finding truthful and factual information on acne is the best first step you can take in clearing your skin. Rising above the hype and glitzy advertisements is hard, but needs to be done if you want great skin.

Read the Labels on Anti Aging Creams

When you are shopping for and comparing labels on anti aging cream products, it can be very confusing. The names of the ingredients may seem foreign to you. You may wonder what these ingredients do and if they really work. Becoming familiar with some of the ingredients used in these products will help make comparing them easier and less confusing.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids exfoliate dead skin cells from the outer layers of your skin. When dead skin cells build up, it leaves you with a dull complexion. Exfoliating these cells will leave you with younger looking skin.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is one of the strongest antioxidants on the market. It is used in anti aging creams to counteract the damage done by free radicals.

Antioxidants, such as Vitamin A, C and E, are used to protect against the damage done by free radicals. These particles result from the oxidation of cells. Free radicals cause damage to the cells and have a part in the aging process. They are also thought to play a role in certain diseases, such as cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants bind free radicals and stop the damage done by these particles.

Beta Hydroxy Acids work in the same way as Alpha Hydroxy Acids. The main difference is that Beta Hydroxy Acids are less irritating to the skin. Salicylic acid is the most common beta hydroxy acid found in anti aging creams.

Botanicals are plant extracts that are used in many beauty products. Some of the common botanicals found in anti wrinkle creams are ginseng, aloe and gingko. These all have regenerative properties when used on the skin.

Coenzyme 10 is a nutrient found in the cells of the skin. It works to minimize wrinkles.

Collagen is a protein that makes up connective tissue in the body. Skin is made up of about seventy percent collagen. In anti aging creams, this ingredient works to tighten the skin. This helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles and sagging of the skin.

Elastin is a protein found in the skin. It gives the skin its elasticity and resilience. Elastin helps the skin return to its original shape after movements, such as smiling or frowning. Elastin naturally decreases with age. This results in the skin not returning to its original shape and causes smile lines, frown lines, worry lines and crow’s feet. Elastin in anti wrinkle creams helps return elasticity to the skin.

Emollients are used as a moisturizer in skin care products. They are essential for helping the skin retain moisture. Emollients act as a moisture barrier to help prevent moisture loss.

Essential oils are plant oils that are used in skin care products and in aromatherapy. Lavender and chamomile are two essential oils that are used in anti aging creams. These essential oils soothe irritation in the skin.

Retinol is a form of vitamin A that is used in anti aging creams. Retinol helps build and strengthen collagen fibers in the skin. It also exfoliates the skin to help remove dead skin cells.

SPF stands for sun protection factor. This is used in some anti wrinkle creams that are intended to be worn during the day. SPFs help screen out the ultraviolet rays from the sun, which are implicated in premature aging. If your cream doesn’t contain this ingredient, be sure to apply sunscreen when you are going outside.

Learning to read labels will help take the guess work out of purchasing anti aging cream and skin care products. When you know what is in the cream and how the ingredients benefit your skin, it’s easier to find the products that are right for your skin. Reading reviews is another great way to find great products for reducing and preventing wrinkles.

Acne Control Skin Care – 7 Tips

What is a proper acne control skin care? With so many skin products it is easy to damage your skin instead of helping it. For example, alcohol based cleansers or serious scrubbing will only make your acne worse. Find out how to give your face best acne skin care.

1. Clean your skin with gentle cleansers

Use mild cleansing agent on acne affected skin. Gently rub it in twice a day. If the weather is very hot or you do a lot of exercise makes sure to wash the sweat of your face. Bacteria can accumulate on your face when you are sweating. You can use an astringent cleanser for washing your face. Best cleansers contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, licochalone, chamomile, aloe vera, feverfew, and niacinamide. Avoid acne cleanser with high alcohol content, they will dry your skin.

Be careful not to overdo it with the cleansing. Using acne cleanser five times a day instead of two won’t help. Actually it can only make your skin more irritated. Scrubbing acne affected skin is also a bad idea; it will only make acne worse.

2. Use exfoliating acne skin care products

Exfoliating means removing dead skin sells from the surface of your skin. Not only these sells make your skin look dull, they are also a good food for bacteria. At home you can use mild exfoliating scrubs about once a week. For a more dramatic effect ask a dermatologist if dermabrasion or a chemical peel can help you to get rid of acne.

3. Simplest rule of acne skin care – no squeezing and pinching

Don’t tease your skin. It might be very tempting to get rid of these terrible whiteheads by squeezing them, but they will only pop up again and look even more awful then before. And it can also leave a scar on your skin.

4. Sun is the enemy of acne affected skin

Sun is damaging for any skin, but it is particularly dangerous when you have acne. First, acne makes your skin more sensitive. Second, most acne medications like cleansers and acne creams make your skin more susceptible to sun damage. Using a sun block cream is not a good idea, most sun screen creams are oil based. So for proper acne skin care stay out of the sun or wear a hat.

5. Shave with care when you have acne

Shaving can be a problem. Whether you use electric razor or a safety razor take extra care when shaving, if you have acne. If you use a safety razor, make sure it is very sharp. It is best to use disposable razors. Soften your beard with water and soap before putting a shaving cream on. It is recommended to use shaving creams for sensitive skin. And, most important, don’t shave very often, because every shaving disturbs your skin and can make blemishes worse.

6. Select make-up carefully

Make-up can help to hide acne and acne scars, but you have to be careful applying it. Only select water based (not oil based) congealers and foundations. Avoid cheap cosmetic, it can damage your skin farther. If you use blush, go for a powder blush instead of a stick blush, it is less likely to clog your pores.

Remove your make up as soon as you get home. Even the best cosmetic is not really good for acne affected skin. It can clog your pores causing more acne breakouts. If you notice that your acne are getting worse, switch to a different brand make up. And don’t use make-up unless absolutely necessary – decorative cosmetic is not a friend for acne skin care.

7. Keep dirty hands off your face

When working in the garden or doing any other dirty work, never touch your face. It can transfer bacteria to your skin and cause an acne breakout.

Stick to these simple rules of best acne skin care. Combined with a good acne treatment or medication they will help you to clean your face of acne and bring back your beautiful skin.
